004 - Further Research

After doing some initial brainstorming and research, I now have to narrow down the ideas/topics that I want to focus on and further look into. There were a lot of possible pathways when I first started this research but as I went along, I realized that it was best if I chose a topic that I felt comfortable and confident writing and talking about. Another important aspect, which I though was important in choosing the right idea to further research on was if I enjoyed personally enjoyed it.

The first topic I want to concentrate on is Photojournalism/Documentary Photography and the way Edgar Martins approached the practice when he created the project 'This is Not a House' as this led to the work being a very controversial one. Through this, I want to know more about the limits of a photographer in both a journalist's perspective and in an artistic way. The next idea I want to work with is the meaning of the images and how they are able to portray the issues surrounding the fall of the housing market all across the globe. The effects and impact of this photo essay is something that I feel I must include in my review because intent is a vital part of producing artworks. Whether the artist was successful or not is something that I want to figure out by the time I have written my contextual review.
